Engine oil Mobil or OEM Mazda
There’s been a lot of advancements in oils since the YJ was new. I use Mobil 1 0w40 in mine due to its excellent temperature range and proven endurance.
Mobile 1 full synthetic 0W-20 every 5K. My engine hums like a top.
Oil changes are cheap enough now that Mobil1 ESP 0w-30/5w-30 which is Approved by VW as 507 spec is around $28 per jug at Walmart. I'd change it more frequently and not chance it on the 2015 TDI engines in USA.
CKRA Passat, 164k miles, every 10k miles oil changes since new without negative experience. I did a Blackstone report once and oil looked good. I have used Rowe, Liquimoly, Fuchs and Mobil1 ESP.
Mobil 1 is a fantastic oil.
I have 265k on my 2002 Weekender purchased new. Run Mobil-1 0W-40. No problems with engine but transmission needs TLC.
When I switched from Kirkland I noticed no condensation under the oil cap vs having a milky consistency under the cap. I think the hybrid oil deals with moisture better in these hybrid engines.
I used Mobil1 for a decade and around 50k with no issues.
Yeah, this has bothered me for a bit. I like the Gen.G team, but I didn't attempt to get any of their free merch at Rotterdam, precisely because I don't want to be a walking Mobil 1 ad.
DO NOT use Mobil1 0W40 in the 2.5. I tried it and well before the oil change time, the engine sounded like a diesel with all sorts of valve train rattle.
