I wanted it to work well at night. The best sensor is currently the Sony starvis so I wanted one with that. And I wanted 4k. And I wanted multiple cameras.

So that basically left one decent option. The VIOFO. It’s been very good indeed.

Pros: works well at night, 4k

Viofo A229 Pro is brilliant. You can optionally add a rear camera, or in car camera, or even a telephoto (so you can make out plates easily if someone makes off).

Pros: brilliant, add more cameras

One thing to note about the VIOFO is that 99% of the settings you can do from your phone, but if you want to turn off the little display lights on the unit you have to use the built-in menu. You can’t do it from your phone. I turned them off so they are not distracting at night.

Pros: settings via phone
Cons: display lights menu only

I just installed a VIOFO A229 in my 2024 Limited w/ eyesight. I purchased a Dongar adapter to draw power from the rearview mirror. Had it installed in about 30 minutes and looks nice and clean. Highly recommend this setup.

Pros: looks nice and clean

garmin mini 3 with the dongar cable. Tuck it up behind the passenger side of your rear view mirror and its basically invisible and runs in the background. Honestly forget i have it until I see questions like this come up in this sub haha

Pros: basically invisible

Impressed so far however the only draw back is it doesnt notify me via phone if a collisson is detected, the next model up however offers this functionality. If it does detect damage the positive is that it puts the recording into a seperate folder so it does not get wiped.

Pros: records when parked, separate damage folder
Cons: no phone collision notification

Get a high-quality dash cam like a VIOFO. Get one with a rear camera and a sensor with excellent night vision. Spend the money to get it professionally installed at a car stereo shop. It will seem pricey, but having your insurance rate go up while being on the expensive side of a hit-and-run can save you some grief.

Pros: high quality, rear camera, excellent night vision, saves grief
Cons: can seem pricey

I have a Seal and I put a Viofo A129 Plus Duo in mine. I don't bother with hard-wiring anymore, and I use the included USB cables into the car's front USB socket for power. They're perfect length for front to back connections. I hid my cables along the headliner and windscreen, pulling back the rubber seals along the door and the A pillar trims (be mindful not to block the air bags) . I can't remember if the rear cables ran along the bottom or top, but cables are easy to hide under trim pieces or carpet. Routing the USB power plug to the front socket was tricky because of just how tight the panels were. I used a lot more force than I was used to but was happy with the final result, which was just a tiny bit of cabling sticking out to reach the socket.

Pros: perfect cable length, easy to hide cables
Cons: tricky power routing
Vehicle: BYD

I’ve tried 2 so far and just had bad luck. A FitCamX that caught fire during the install and a Viofo A129 but the software totally sucked.

Cons: software totally sucked
