Brake pads Project Mu or Hawk Performance

I went with hps 5.0s and they’re great but I should’ve gone less aggressive

I run Hawk HPS 5.0 on the street and just pad slap DTC-60 / 30 front / rear and it works fine.

The racing shop that does the work on my track car picked out Hawk HPS 5.0 pads for me for this same purpose. They worked great on the track and don't have much more noise than a factory pad.

I'm only in HPDE2, though, so my track evaluation may not mean much. They were definitely an improvement over the stock pads I used in the previous track outing.

Hawk HPS 5.0 pads, Raybestos AT. I'm on my 4th? set of front pads+rotors after 125k miles. Rears are still the stock.

Blank rotors and Hawk HPS 5.0 pads. I’ve been running them for almost a decade, and I’m always surprised at how long they last and how little dust they make for how aggressive as they are.

Depends what you're after. If just street with some spirited driving, smething like pmu hc+ or ns400 works. I do track work and used to run hc800s, but got hc+ thinking they are the same. Only 600c rated instead. But, good cold performance, and extra good performance hot. So, they don't wear out super quickly while daily driving. Got quite a lot of track days and driving out of my original hc800s with t3 rotors. But, they are harder to find. Need to get the shape from pmus website, and then find somebody that stocks them. I haven't investigated ceramic pads for the Golf R but based on the Hawk Ceramic Compound Performance Pads I have on my A4, which has huge RS4 front calipers and B7 S4 rears, I'd try them as they are quiet, generate negligible dust and are easy on the rotors.

I found Project Mu Club Racers to be decently streetable for a track pad. They do squeal a bit at less than 25 but are tolerable as long as they’re bedded in and you’re giving a decent amount of threshold pressure.

I ran HP+ pads and nearly ruined some STI Rays wheels I ordered from Japan. The key to cleaning the dust off is using a cleaner that has an iron remover. Sonax makes a good one. Meguiar's all wheel cleaner also works OK. I had to treat each wheel about 5x with a soft bristle brush and still ended up using a blue Scotch Brite to get the hard deposits of dust. I ended up removing some paint in some indescreet locations. I was super bummed. I no longer run these pads and run ceramics for the street. I plan to run more aggressive pads when needed, but haven't picked anything yet. The HP+ are great. The modulation is amazing. The bite, even when cold, is awesome. But there's a major trade off.

I changed out the oem and ran Hawks for a while, braking distance wan't much difference but the brake dust was terrible, Rims where dirty all of the time.
