Brake pads OEM Volvo or OEM BMW

OEM BMW Brake pads

I’m on my second lightly used BMW. first one had 25k miles and was totaled at 60k, current one was bought around the same time and is now at 40k. Both have been great. A little pricey on maintenance because it’s around the time when things like brakes need to be replaced but completely worth it in my opinion.

Pros: both have been great
Cons: pricey on maintenance
Vehicle: BMW
Mileage: 64373 km

XC90 T8, total 135k km on the clock and have done 85k km ourselves:

- previous owner did the brake pads at about 40k km

- we have now done front and rear brake pads recently (so after about 90k km use), both front and rear still had about 3mm to go.

Pros: 3mm left after 90k km
Vehicle: Volvo XC90
Mileage: 135000 km

I got mine in November 2024 brand new. M Sport Pro in Carbon Black.

For starters, it is a pretty reliable car. I have done 13,000 kms in one year, plenty of road trips along with some being on steep mountains.

So far, it has given me 0 major issues.

Pros: handles extremely well
Cons: second row legroom
Vehicle: BMW
Mileage: 13000 km

I’ve got a 2019 with 110k km, have only had to change the brake pads outside of normal maintenance and that’s cause I drive it hard. Most reliable vehicle I’ve owned

Pros: most reliable vehicle
Cons: brake pads wear
Vehicle: BMW
Mileage: 110000 km

I’ve got a ‘21 XC60 T5 Inscription now with about 33k miles and absolutely love it. I’ve had a couple problems with the front, passenger side interior handle but they’ve been covered under the CPO ten year warranty. Wish it had full screen and wireless CarPlay but there are ways around it and replace the OEM brakes with better ones when it’s time as the Volvo ones suck as they wear quickly and unevenly. VERY happy with it.

Pros: love it, happy with it
Cons: interior handle problems, OEM brakes wear quickly
Vehicle: Volvo XC60
Mileage: 33000 km

Configuring new car I would definitelly go for ccbs. The braking power is massive. But if driving in cold weather, snow or cold rain and not touching the brake for couple of minutes on highway and the first braking after that is basically no braking.

If used incorrectly on the track you can fuck them up. Dont ask how I learned that. Swapping them to steelies now. Car is at 130k kms. The weight of ccbs is good but they starting peeling probably due to overheating them with too much worn brake pads.

Pros: massive braking power, good weight
Cons: no braking in cold, peeling due to overheating

Mileage: 130000 km

2001 740i never had any issues with the throttle response but the brakes could be better. Too spongy and not as responsive as my 99 540i was.

Cons: spongy, not responsive

The steering was the worst of all the cars I tried. Engine was fabulous but transmission not very responsive. Handling and suspension usability range were solid but the killer for this car was the really soft, weak brakes.

Pros: fabulous engine
Cons: soft, weak brakes
Vehicle: BMW

the brakes just didn't like slowing from 140 to 90, even though that's something I regularly do on the highway - it doesn't like it then either, but it was scarier on track. What I mean by "the brakes didn't like it" is that after one or maximum 2 hard brakes, the pedal and steering wheel transmit a horrible vibration everytime I even touch the brakes, and this goes on until I presume the brakes have either cooled off, or the rotors have bent themselves back into shape.

Cons: horrible vibration, scary
