Brake pads OEM Mazda or OEM Chevrolet

OEM Mazda Brake pads

My 12 of this generation is at 222k miles with just oil changes and tires as well. One set of pads and rotors at 175k and still had life left.

Pros: reliable and lowest maintenance
Vehicle: Mazda 2
Mileage: 357271 km

Put 306k miles in 13 years, on my brand new '07 Silverado 1/2 Ton before I sold it to a mechanic at my preferred shop (leak in the fuel system/tank that was going to require removing the bed etc).\n\nPrior to that issue, I never had a single thing go wrong with it. Tires, brake pads (original set lasted 200k miles), oil/tranny fluid changes, air filters, wiper blades, were all it ever needed.

Pros: original brake pads lasted
Mileage: 306000 km

I inherited a 2011 cx7 from my parents who purchased this car new. They have always kept care of their vehicles. This is a non turbo model. Other than normal maintenance items they had replaced the AC compressor. Since I took it over in 2020, I replaced drive side front wheel bearing and passenger front caliper, brake pads all the way around plus normal maintenance items. 320,000km runs perfectly.

Pros: reliable, runs perfectly
Vehicle: Mazda
Mileage: 320000 km

2016.5 CX-5 with 89,000 miles. So far I've had to replace the belt tensioner, accessories belt, water pump belt and breaks (technically I only needed pads and front rotors but I chose to just do them all in one shot since it made a negligible price difference since I was already doing the back pads.

Pros: cheap replacements
Vehicle: Mazda
Mileage: 89000 km

My cx9 was at 3mm on the rears at 52k. Get a caliper compression kit and it yourself. It's not very hard. I did my rears a month back in my driveway for $130.

Pros: easy DIY repair
Cons: rear pads worn at 52k
Vehicle: Mazda
Mileage: 52000 km

Seems a bit sus - but it's not unusual for rear pads to wear faster than front on certain cars. My Ford Flex and CX-50 both wear pads faster out back (it made sense on the Flex because of long wheelbase but was surprised the 50 did it too). That said they should last twice as long.

Cons: rear pads wear fast
Vehicle: Mazda

Mazda brakes are notoriously shit. They’re garbage. Buy a set of PowerStop brakes and be done with it. They’re far superior to the Mazda brakes. Go on any forum and you’ll see countless people having the same issue as you. New brakes between 15-20,000 miles. Me included. I’ve owned 2 6s from new. Both needed brakes around 20,000 miles. Both times I put on PowerStops and never had another issue.

Pros: PowerStop superior, no more issues
Cons: Mazda brakes garbage
Vehicle: Mazda 6
Mileage: 20000 km

easy 40 minute job to replace brakes on my 14 Mazda 3 took about two hours. It all pops off super easy going great. Go to put them on, well shit they don't fit. Try the other side for some reason thinking I'm just having a stupid moment. Doesn't work either.

Pros: easy to remove
Cons: brakes don't fit
Vehicle: Mazda 3

Just had a dealer give me an estimate of $560 for new rear pads and rotors. Unfortunately, the idiot was going by mileage and he never actually looked to see that I just replaced the pads and rotors myself 10,000 miles ago. That was on my 2016 Mazda CX 5.

Pros: null
Cons: overpriced, unnecessary
Vehicle: Mazda 5
Mileage: 10000 km
