Brake pads EBC or Mintex

Mintex Brake pads

I had Ferodo pads on an earlier VW and really liked them. Now I have Mintex on this car and they are have better feel than the stock pads and make MUCH less dust.

Pros: better feel, less dust
Vehicle: Volkswagen

I should also add that the Mintex Red pads that BLUE NRG is using are one of the faster bedding pads on the market and have a much wider operating temperature than most high performance pads and certainly most race pads.

Pros: faster bedding pads

I got Mintex pads from Autotech for my 97 Jetta 2.0 in Jan. I do a fair amount of city driving and drive the car kind of hard all the way around. Mintex pads worked great with almost no dust and were much better in the rain. (stock pads sucked in the rain) I only had them on the car for 5K then car got wrecked but I plan to get them for the new one..

Pros: almost no dust, great rain
Mileage: 5000 km

EBC Brake pads

I have EBC pads on the Front, and let me tell you a story.... Last year, I had Mintex Redbox pads, (bedded in, with about 5k miles on them) and I went to Summit Point. After 1 stop from 110 mph, they were all done. I had to take it easy for the rest of the day, and my rotors began to warp badly. I switched to EBC pads this spring. 3k miles later, I went back to Summitt. As expected, I drove ALOT harder, since I knew the track better. The first session, I had violent shake from the previous warping, but by the 2nd session, the warping was GONE . Repeated, hard stops failed to make these pads skip a beat.

Pros: cured warping
Cons: not cold performance
Mileage: 3000 km

Hmm, EBC are some of the better brake pads between the other two. I have them on my car all around and I warped two sets of stock rotors on them, but I think that's because I was WAY too hard on them. I mean, I would heat them up so much that they would smell so so so bad. Now I have zimmermans and new V4 compound EBCs up front and I have no warpage after 4,000 miles. EBCs customer service is great, too.

Pros: great customer service
Cons: warped stock rotors
Mileage: 4000 km

Interesting I have EBC pads all round and have not experianced any problems at all. Unlike with the stock pads that had warped the discs with only 22K on the clock. It did give me the excuse to upgrade to the 312mm discs though and EBC Greenpads. A lot less dust and no noticable fade at all now, although I don't do track events.

Pros: less dust, no fade
Mileage: 22000 km
