Brake pads Bosch or OEM Volkswagen
The brakes are a bit touchy at first. However as time goes on and they bed in they seem to be better. They are very well suited to back roads/canyon carving.
well except brake pads that need replacing.
I've driven both, and I do agree that the PP brakes do bite harder and give a more confident feel on the street. They (PP) feel bigger and more powerful.
I almost doubled the HP on my gti, and the stock brakes worked fine. Just upgrade to vented regular stock brake set up.
Plus, in real world driving, they stop on a dime. They scrub off speed really well - I've had a couple of saves thanks to these.
I use Bosch QuietCast brake pads. Never had a problem and work great.
The brakes are worth every cent. They're an order of magnitude more powerful and confidence inspiring than my MK6 GTI.
I thought the biggest let down of the stock mk7 GTI brakes where the ****ty stock pads cooking very easily, but with a good set of pads and fluid where pretty descent.
I have a few friends who have MK7 GTI's and all of them complain about their stock brakes on the base model GTI, I wouldn't consider spending money on these units as your not really gaining anything.
The brakes are **** for anything but driving on the street, but most people know that already.
