Akebono Pads and Zimmerman Rotors are a popular combo. I just did them myself a few months ago coming off OEMs and stopping seems better and way less brake dust!

Pros: better stopping, less brake dust

I've been running those pads for a while now, not only do they feel and stop just like OEM unless you're a person that tracks the car, but they also keep your wheels clean longer. The amount of reduced dust is staggering. No other noise, I've never had them squeal, even when needing to be replaced.

Pros: feel like OEM, reduced dust
Cons: none

Akebono Brake pads

Recently did a brake change on my 14 Q50S AWD, pads and rotors (Akebono) for front and rear for regular maintenance. After the change I did the same break in technique I’ve done with all of my vehicles and all was well.

Pros: regular maintenance, all was well

Use Akebono ceramic pads. They have like 5% less bite than the performance pads but last way long and produce wayyyyy less dust. In emergency situations the grip is limited by your tires, so that 5% performance loss isn't really worth anything for daily driving.

Pros: less dust, last long
Cons: 5% less bite

Akebonos are a good, quiet, low cost, and low dust option for the street. They also get rid of the annoying "bite" that the original pads have. They're a much more progressive pad. Don't try to track them though.

Pros: good, quiet, low cost
Cons: don't track them

Akebono has had the best blend of low dust low noise and good initial bite. I’ve used hundreds of different pads at my shop over the 14 years it was open and they were consistently the ones that had the least amount of problems.

Pros: low dust, low noise
Cons: least amount of problems

Akebono Brake pads

Having said that - aside from the valve cover gasket - that job requires all gaskets replaced on the air intake side, and I’m not seeing those in the list. Also, for some reason, I had bad luck with Akebono pads on my Honda. Worked well on a Toyota but just about each time my Pilot would develop a shimmy after about 10k kms after pads replacement. I have had a much better luck with Centrix rotors and pads.

Pros: better luck with Centrix rotors/pads
Cons: bad luck with Akebono pads
Vehicle: Honda Pilot
Mileage: 10000 km

I have a 2000 E39 that I’ve owned since new. About five years ago I got tired of the brake dust and decided to try Akebono’s. I regretted it as soon as I drove it for the first time. The BMW brake feel was gone and I had to press on the pedal twice as hard.

Cons: BMW brake feel gone
Vehicle: BMW
