Brake discs POWER STOP or OEM Volkswagen
I also did the upgrade (after thoroughly reading the golfdave thread), as I hated how grabby and sticky the stock brakes were. For me, it was totally worth it. The larger front rotors have made the brakes way more linear and easy to modulate. The extra thermal capacity is just a bonus.
Nice, I order the power stop kit from ecstuning non vented worked great and was able to slide out rotors. 26k mikes and rotors were corroded bad.
I did my fronts and have posted the details recently if you search. Got my rotors/pads from Rockauto - $210 delivered. Yes, not a lot of options for the front for whatever reason. I got Powerstop slotted/drilled rotors and Centric Posi-quiet ceramic pads. V. easy job - about an hour and a half total taking my time. Amazing results compared to my uneven/\"warped\" stockers. My issue was pulsing slowing from highway speeds.
I used the EVOLUTION GEOMET COATED ROTOR BRAKE KIT from PowerStop on my Gen 1. Worked great, lasted long, lot less brake dust.
The only thing I have done to it before the most recent work was to change out the rotors and pads.
I'm running Powerstop drilled and slotted rotors (stock diameter) and their ceramic pads both front and rears and they perform great. I dont track my car but for street use is perfectly fine. The pads have very little brake dust and I don't hear any noise from them either and pedal feel is a bit better than stock to me but just barely. I've had these on since last year without any problems. I also have this brand on my other vehicles..specifically my '99 Subaru 2.5rs...and never had any issues with the brakes at all and it's been 10 yrs. So I'm hoping to get the same results with my R.
Stock rotors are cheap and effective anything bigger is just for show.
GTI Clubsport rotors drop 2.2lbs per side at the front
I'm actually running corrado g60 rotors right now that i redrilled to 5 bolt since my last set warped.
Unfortunately the problem is inherent in the design of the rotors. Not in where they were produced. You can put the best rotors in the world on that car and they will still warp. Vw/Chrysler would need to spec a larger and thicker rotor to help dissipate heat properly. All aftermarkets will make the rotor to fit, based on the crappy oem specs. So, get used to having new rotors put on...because recall or not, Chrysler still needs to redesign that rotor. FYI, I'm in the same boat as you guys! These rotors suck!
