I just upgraded to a yellow top optima n I'm one cable short on finishing the big three.
Great battery! I'm really happy with mine.
I have a red top, kicks ass, and would never get anything else..
Optimas are good batteries and they can be mounted in any position. They claim they're a spiracell acr blah blah battery and not a gel cell, but I think that's just marketing.
Optima makes nice batteries. If you feel like getting one, go for it. If you drive a bone stock car in very average conditions, you don't need the optima, but again, they are a good product-if you have the $$ to spend on one, you won't be upset with the performance.
I just bought my battery from Costco last week.....well kind of. I got PepBoys to match the price of the Optima Red Tops that they used to sell.
Fitment was perfect. Sat on my stock battery tray just fine and the bracket held it down no problem. I'm a happy camper so far.
Your Optima might never be the same now. Once they go dead they usually don't have the same charging and output capabilities.
My Optima Redtop 8003-151 34R that I purchased through amazon kicked the bucket and cannot be recharged. Do not buy Optima Batteries from Amazon since they will send you back to Optima and Optima will tell you that Amazon is not an Authorized dealer.
I go for the best, Optima Yellow Top group size 35 from Johnson Controls. I have owned them before, loved their batteries, a lot of In car Electronics, lights, Sound systems. I prefer Optima Yellow Tops. I installed the new battery, idle issue went away instantly. Driving home that night from work, fire started shooting out from under the hood scoop. Both the fire department and insurance company stated the fire started from the acid in the battery, originating from a single point on the battery. Wiring harness and vacuum lines were toast. Insurance company declared it a total loss.
