I don't see it as overkill. It might have unused capacity, but I'd also rather have a battery that stands up to more than just enough.
I e been happy with them in my last 3 vehicles.
I had an Optima red top in my 89 4runner and that thing lasted for 12 fucking years. Needless to say I bought another one.
Just did that on my 19 gsw, no battery management extra thing to deal with, just the two connectors and obd11 for coding to fleece (not binary agm). Only issue I have is the battery blanket doesn't fit the bigger size.
I have optima yellow and it’s lasted 150,000 miles so far and not slowing down
As previously stated. I have had an Optima Red Top in my Cabriolet for nearly 7 years and have never had a problem. During that that tiome, the battery sat out of the car for almost a year with only occasional bench top charging and was perfectly OK when put back into service. Also, recently I screwed up and left my lights on. The battery was dead dead the next morning. 1.43 volts present to be exact. Took some time but I was able to bring it back up, and it has been performing well ever since. Optima even has a video out about how to bring back a completely dead battery.
I bought an optima just because it and it's custom hold down looked cool. Unfortunately I let it sit with no tender for over a year and it discharged almost completely. I've been able to nurse it back and it is functioning at this time, but not sure it will hold a charge. We will see. I'm happy with it otherwise.
Think my optima red top is about to give out, it's draining down overnight in the cold
I used an Optima, never again.
my yellow top won't hold a charge after two winters in my project car. will never spend another dime with them
