I recently changed the coolant in my 2020 CX-5 with genuine Mazda prediluted FL22. The reason I change the coolant is corrosion protection. The corrosion inhibitors in coolant deplete with both time and mileage. Many aftermarket coolants may not be formulated with the identical corrosion protection chemical strategy found in the Mazda FL22 coolant. Using an aftermarket coolant is a risk I am not willing to take. My cooling system remains safe from corrosion. Using my schedule I will not have coolant and internal corrosion issues for as long as I own my car. Peace of mind is worth it to me.
Last time I priced FL 22 at the Mazda dealer it was about the same as AutoZone I was surprised I thought it would be considerably more.
I got the light this morning on the wife's JSW. So I checked out the situation. Sure enough seriously low coolant, like well below minimum fill line. Only 7000 miles. Took it to the dealership to have it topped off.
for vw's; i prefer using the 50/50 coolant from the dealer my gf's 2.0 had a small leak for months and we just kept on topping it off with the pepboys stuff-- but once i replaced the thermostat housing you can see corrosion in the hoses and the old housing -the coolant from vw is quite different than aftermarket brands (you can really tell just from its thickness-- i suggest forking the dough over for the vw stuff -other cars; i don't know
G12 may cost 12 bucks a gallon, but you only need one gallon and the manual states it is good for the life of your vehicle.
i run the G12 - every vw i ran G11 in, the coolant broke down after 5k miles, but the minute i swiched to g12, i have yet to have a problem
The mk3 came with G11 coolant. The mk4 came with G12 coolant. I'm running G12 in a well-flushed mk3 radiator, and I have no problems.
I also had the coolant replaced. I asked for the OEM stuff, which I guess is pink (?). They said mine was pretty much black !
