I would not cheap out on an alternator, especially if you’re having a shop install it as paying for labor to replace two low quality alternators is equivocal to one OEM.
To date the 4 cylinder Camry alternator is the fastest one I’ve ever replaced. From start to finish I think I spent 20 minutes on it.
only thing I've done is change a battery, an alternator and tires (weather checking).
A 98k on a alternator made after 2020 isn't bad. Almost impressive.
I've been daily driving, road-tripping, and wheeling my 100 from 190k miles to its current 283k. Never once has it left me stranded. In that time I've replaced the alternator
I’d recommend going by a local Toyota dealer parts department and getting an OEM replacement. It’s more pricey than aftermarket but… it’ll last as long as the original Toyota alternator did.
Owned a 4th gen 4runner for over 10 years. Boring to drive and look at, but it took a lot of abuse and never gave me any problems. It only had to be towed once due to the alternator going out on me 50 miles from home.
I just went through a headache replacing my 3rd alternator in 2 years. I took it to the shop and they put an oem alternator in it and told me not to buy the parts store alternators. It's fine if you don't mind pulling them out to replace every year or so.
Someone warned me against going with auto parts store Remanufactured because they had to do it 2 or 3 times before they got a good Alt, so I stuck to OEM.
It's a dice roll. I've had some success with them, but when I put a reman one in my Focus, it only lasted 2 weeks.
