I got mine in and running Perfect for people who need a little more room running ITBs It even charges better than my rebuilt bosch did (hitting 14v)
if you're planning on keeping the car a while then $365 installed is reasonable for a refurbished bosch (use the same mfr & amp that was OE) and that should come w/warantee & last about as long as the original.
yea, just pick up a new one at like autozone, get the bosch one if you can.
Just did this mod today and my voltage went up to 14.4v at the battery/alternator!!!! Wahooooo!!! And by the way...the car drives sooooooo much better!!! NIGHT AND DAYYY DIFFERENCE!!! I'm glad you posted this up...i never knew!! Cheap $1.50 mod and it actually WORKS!
buy a brand new Bosch one....the aftermarket ones suck, ask me how I know....this is one of the few areas where buying the original bosch oem part makes a huge difference...they are usually around 30 dollars and should be lasting you at least 2-3 years
you should be able to find bosch for way under 300 don't get anything elkse unless you trust it. I had 2 no namers fail within 6 months. bosch is going over 2 years now.
Multi rib surpentine belt. self tensioning alternator only three pullies crank, wpump and alt. No tensioning pulley etc. bracket pn: 028 903 143 AD alternator: Bosch AL0185X Then there is a big spring that goes between the alt and the bracket to tension it all. sweet piece.
i had a bosch 75 amp alternator on my beetle, w/ a huge amp wired up and it was great... never had problems w/ it...
I called IPD, a Volvo specialist here in Portland, and they sold me a direct fit, adjustable voltage regulator for my bosch alternator, now i have the voltage output set at 15.5 volts when the car is running, and yes, it helps immensely. no more slightly undercharged batteries.
