I’ve had my Toyota 4Runner for 13 years now. Never needed to change my brakes or encountered catastrophic engine failures. Maybe lucky but per Toyota, the 4Runner is rated for 22 MPG on the highway and I’m getting 23.5 MPG.
Owner reviews for brake pads
Didn't need to even change the break pad more then once. Never need to to add oil because it never burned any. Even on its last oil change no sign of burning or sludge build up.
I recommend using Akebono ceramic instead of OEM semi-metallic because they’re more gentle on the rotors and significantly less dusty.
amazing truck - I daily drove one in California (gasoline 1fz-fe is arguably the best Toyota motor ever IMO) for several years. Geared for off-road, doesn't cruise comfortably on freeways above ~70mph. 12-13 miles per gallon city or highway, always the same number. It never stranded me, so very reliable.
I ended up buying the brembo pads after getting power stop. These brakes can squeak so go for the gold.
Unless you do extreme driving (lots of mountains runs, hot laps on track, etc) slotted and or drilled rotors are a waste of money. They will cause much higher pad wear. Spend your money on good pads and buy meh rotors to get best bang for your buck and longevity.
Powerstop z23/z26 are both pretty good, have ran a couple sets.
maybe not the place but anyone have an idea as to why my newly replaced pads and rotors squeak? I got akebono ceramics paired with durago coated rotors and they stop like crazy, barely dust but they SQUEALLLLL when braking lightly and only lightly.
While brembo make a "premium" quality brakes they are just standard brakes (comparable to Delphi etc).
Those Akebono pads suuuuuuuuuuck. Super clean, no brake dust, but just garbage performance.
My rear ebcs are squealing like a b...thc
