EBC Brake pads
andk1987
  • Braking:
  • Dust:
Rating 4.5

i went with EBC Grenstuff pads and stock/oem pagent brand discs, brake fade was an issue before but now is non existant, also pad dust is less of an issue and it doesnt seem to stick to the wheels as badly as the stock Bmw pads that were fitted before. All in i would definately fit them again theyve made a marked improvement on stopping distance, they were £60 for a front pair and i went with oem on the rears.

Pros: less brake dust, improved stopping
Cons: none mentioned
Vehicle: MINI

Sailun Tires
Deserion
  • Grip:
  • Ride comfort:
Rating 4.0

My housemate's '10 Mini Clubman has Sailun tires (not his choice) on it. In all honesty they're not bad at all, given they're still good with 10k miles on them, and the torrential rain we experienced on I-95 the past week (on a 2000+ mile trip). Likely will get better next time, but they're holding up well.

Pros: not bad, holding up well
Mileage: 16093 km

FEDERAL Tires
Blade3562
  • Grip:
  • Ride comfort:
Rating 4.5

Outperformed my 02 Cooper S at an AutoX event! I'm also talking about in the rain vs other tires I've had. Blows Michelins, Toyos, Pirellis, Goodyears out of the water no pun intended lol. They also seem to handle side/cornering load well. My continentals were cooked after a few track days and spirited drives while these seem fine. No chunking or odd wear patterns on the edge of the tread/sidewall. Any of those who have tracked will know what I'm referring to.

Pros: outperform in rain, handle cornering load well, no odd wear

Akebono Brake pads
Michael_Scott
  • Noise:
  • Dust:
Rating 4.5

I've had Centric rotors and Akebono pads on my MINI Cooper S for almost two years now. Since then there has been 40,000 miles, 3 track days, and a season of auto cross. I'd say they perform on par or above with the OEM step. The pads are definitely a step up with less noise and hardly any brake dust.

Pros: less noise, hardly any dust
Vehicle: MINI
Mileage: 64373 km

Hankook Tires
FourPointOh
  • Grip:
  • Noise:
Rating 4.5

I have a set of the Ventus V12 Evos on my R53, and they see auto-x and daily driving. I think they are great tires for the money, they are quiet, precise, and have some pretty incredible grip.

Pros: quiet, precise, incredible grip
Cons: showing some wear
Vehicle: MINI
Mileage: 15000 km

YOKOHAMA Tires
nickthaskater
  • Grip:
  • Noise:
Rating 4.0

I like Yokohama's approach: In regards to handling, the tires were not destined for track duty, so we experienced a level of performance that was slightly above the standard OE tire on most modern passenger vehicles. A few of us did the sentiment that the tire did improve its ability to stay planted after a few hot laps, which would give credence to Yokohama\u2019s claim that the special compound will change its handling characteristics for the better when driven aggressively.

Pros: improved ability to stay planted
Cons: not destined for track duty

DUNLOP Tires

I have them (Dunlops) on my MINI (215/45/17) as my summer road set. They've seen some auto-x (6 events) over the past year and a couple of track days (4-6 hours total). They've held up quite well. Great feel when breaking away from traction, handle heat well and for the type of tire they are, wear quite well. I've had them for ~10,000km.

Pros: great feel, handle heat well
Vehicle: MINI
Mileage: 10000 km

Goodyear Tires

I weighed my MCS 17"s on a bathroom scale - 49 lb. That's with the 205/45-17 Badyear RS-A's. My 215/45-16 and 16x6.5" Enkei RPO1/Falken Azenis weighed 37 lb. on the same scale. 12 lb per corner is a HUGE amount, and is extremely noticeable while driving.

Pros: noticeable while driving
Cons: heavy per corner

Akebono Brake pads
fprintf
  • Braking:
Rating 1.0

I just put on Akebono ceramics and Zimmerman coated rotors and I hated them for the first few hundred miles. They took a very long time to break in, and this was after a) paying attention to the instructions that say no break-in is needed and b) ignoring that advice when the stopping distances were so bad initially that I bedded them in... and yet the pedal effort was so high that I could barely engage the ABS in the dry. So I'd recommend staying away from that combination.

Cons: long break in, high pedal effort
Vehicle: MINI
