Engine oil VALVOLINE or AMSOIL
on both my current 1.8T VW'S i use Valvoline Synpower 5w-40 Full synthetic- it's an oil that is approved by VW...and has all the right cleaners/additives in it.
AMSOIL is definately the best oil to buy, but its expensive and hard to find (unless you order it - amsoil.com).
i just did my first oil change with amsoil 5-40 European blend. i heard stories about mobil1 burning oil more than other synthetics.
AMSOIL oil and filter. I swear the butt-dyno gave me a few ponies after switching from Mobil.
I have 148k km of entusiastic driving w/Amsoil 5w30 Series 3000. The Ontario distributor actually rates this better than the Euro formula so I will keep using it.
AMSOIL BABY, all the way. 10w30 Turbo oil and filter every 12,500 or 6 months whichever comes first. Out performs all other brands!
I've been using Amsoil on my '02 A4 1.8T. Converted it over as soon as I could b/c that little hamster gets hot during the long summers around here. Car doesn't burn a drop of oil, of coure it has only 29k on it.
5w-40 valvoline synpower is the only synthetic (besides VW Dealer supplied oil) that has VW approval...says so on the bottle if you have a NAPA they can get it for you....i use it year round......
Valvoline SynPower 5w40 is perfectly fine for 10,000 change intervals. As long as it meats CI-4 or VW505.00 or ACEA B3, it's a perfectly ok oil.
I too have used the SynPower since 16,000 miles. The tested sample had 8100 miles on it and had very good readings. I also had the Total Base Number tested which is the additive package. It was 2.0 which is low. They suggested I go no longer than 8100 miles on this oil in my engine due to the additives being low.
