I am about a week in on these new tires and they feel much smoother than the Michelins did. Not as rough over bumps and potholes, and less road noise.
Eventually I got a set of Continental Kryptotal Fr/Re in 2.4" trail casing and endurance compound, and I haven't looked back since. The knobs are massive, and yet they roll super fast and grip super well. They perform so well in every metric that it just doesn't make sense, but I'll take it!
So far I love these new Continentals.
I always get Continental's "control contact sport SRS+" for my 1st gen. Not the most expensive, but I wouldn't describe it as shoestring either.
I’d go with the Blizzaks. I’ve also driven them on a CX-5 but went with Continental VikingContact 7 on my CX-5 and they’re incredible in every aspect.
Personally I went with the Continental Pure Contact LS tires. You do take a hit on efficiency, but it's much better in the rain and snow and wears much better as well. I have 25k miles on mine now and they look like they will last at least another 75k miles.
That is exactly what I did. I am running 18x8.5 +45 with 235/45/18 Conti DWS06. Very happy with my decision.
I love my Contact Spike 240's in 38mm. On smooth tarmac you can hear a small ticking noise but nothing obnoxious. Rolling resistance is fine. Grip is fantastic as long as the spikes can find something hard to bite into.
I’ve had Contis Pro Contacts on 2 cars and I loved them! I did have 2 bubbles through the their wear.
Man I have this EXACT issue on my 2019 arteon, somewhere between 10k and 20k kms and Continental is telling me to fuck off.
