I’ve had the Michelins and the Conti’s on my Mazda 6. Not a RWD vehicle, but enough to get an idea. The Michelins are great tires, but after having the Conti’s as well, the Michelins are absolutely not worth the extra money. The Michelins were a *tad* bit more “sharp” when changing directions at high speed. Quick lane change type stuff. But really other than that, the Conti’s are just as good as the Michelins. And for me, they’re wearing better too.
I got the continental extreme contact dws before the 06 and plus version. At the time, they were the best all season tire. You could get better dry traction and better sno/wet traction but not both. Since then they have only gotten better.
I have a set of Continental DWSs and they are fantastic. Excellent grip in all conditions including snow and ice. Insane for all weather tires. Plus they're quite on the highway.
Not having experienced the Generals, but having had both the Michelins and the Continentals on my car, I'd overall give the pick to the Continentals due to the price difference. The Michelins were great, but overall don't think I compromised at all with the Contis. They ride quiet enough, grip well enough and don't make excessive noise.
I loved them too until I got DWS06+. Slightly less grip but the comfort went up a couple of levels. I can whisper and my passenger can hear me. The AS4s were so loud and my IS350 is staggered so can't rotate.
I’ve had AS4 and now have DWS06+. The Conits have 90% of the sportiness but way better in terms of noise and comfort. Both have really good absolute grip levels so that’s kind of a wash. It’s more about feel than true limits.
Continental DWS 06 Plus is also an amazing A/S tire and more reasonably priced than the Michelins. I've put 20,000 miles on my SQ5 with them. Still quiet, great ride, handle excellent in the wet and dry. Until something better comes along, it's the only tire I'll buy.
I had very good luck with some Walmart bought tires. I put about 53,000 miles in them before I sold the truck and they handled all types of weather and road conditions. Highway, snow covered roads, occasional dirt roads and wet and never had an issue with them.
Gt radial is definitely a cheap option, but I would say they perform decently for the price.
I think the ProContacts are known to be junk. I upgraded to Continental DWS. If those fail, I'm switching brands for life.
