I used to go for the Fram Ultra Synthetic (not at all the same as the cheap Frams), but lately I've been getting Bosch or AC Delco filters from the internet, as they're decent quality and very inexpensive (1/3 the price of a Fram Ultra).
Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic 0W20 with a Fram Ultra Synthetic oil filter. Every car I've owned gets this (weight varies by engine requirements). Runs better and longer than M1EP, Castrol GTX, Valvoline MaxLife, and it's cheaper than Royal Purple and still can be bought at Walmart.
IMO, best bang for your buck is Fram XG6607.
Mobil 1 filters and Fram Ultra filters are good too. Just don't use the the cheap Fram extra guard filter. It's made of paper. The Ultra is higher quality
I typically go with Mobil 1. Fram has been manufacturing filters that use a little flap of tin for the bypass spring which comes on during high oil pressure situations, and at least in Canada i have seen these fail quite early. And not one or two, but closer to 3/10 i have cut open. I should cut more open as my observations are now a bit dated but in my opinion if it has a actual bypass spring inside of it, they will be more effective in the long run since the ones with a actual bypass spring inside of the filter i have personally never seen one fail yet.
And with filter media, you want it to be the vacuum bag. The canister that simply catches the most crap is not exactly the smallest micron rating, but the filter that returns to normal operation reliably when the vehicle hits operating temperature. And if that filter seems too expensive to run, then you really cannot afford to replace the engine.
Edit: Also it is worth checking out your factory supplied oil filter as they usually spring the bypass correctly for the designed engine oil pressure.
When I seat this fram titanium filter in the oil filter housing it doesn’t make that audible click when you push it down and fit snug. It is loose in the oil filter housing and moves around.
Almost any filter is better than a fram.
Don’t use Fram filters they are trash
I do not know very many mechanics or race people who swear by wix or fram on cars that are mechanically more complex. i.e. high compression motors, vvt, etc.
Definitely use a black OEM filter, you need the correct bypass pressure and the blues are made by fram which is legit made of trash
